QST-2 Child Therapist and Parent Trainer Course Information - Trout Lake, Washington
Course Framework (see table at bottom for complete schedule)

  • Initial Training Retreat – Therapists will travel to the Trout Lake Abbey Retreat Center in Trout Lake, Washington (1 ½ hours from the Portland, Oregon International Airport) for 4 days of initial training in QST Monday-Thursday June 19-22, 2017. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 5, 2017.
  • Clinical Supervision – Therapists will videotape a minimum of three selected QST treatments over four months and review videotapes and progress notes with their supervising therapist. Most therapists find that distance supervision works well for them. Occasionally a therapist has found that their learning style is not a good match for distance supervision. In-person supervision is normally unavailable, unless a therapist and supervisor happen to live near each other. Therapists who are not able to master the treatment with distance supervision will not be able to successfully complete the course and graduate.
  • Group Conference Calls – Therapists will discuss their case studies via Skype on two different occasions at the half-way and end points of the treatment (August 5, 2016 and October 7, 2017).

Training Fees and Expenses:
  • Course registration fee – $1995. The course fee includes all distance clinical supervision.
  • Retreat meals fee – $200 for beautiful, delicious, locally sourced vegetarian lunches and dinners during the initial training retreat. The meal fee is paid directly to the caterer onsite in cash or a check - sorry, no credit or debit; information will be provided after your registration is received.
  • Transportation – Therapists will need to make arrangements for and cover all their own transportation expenses (including airfare and ground transportation) to and from the training retreat.
  • Housing – Therapists will be responsible for making their own housing reservations at the Trout Lake Abbey Retreat Center (509) 395-2030 and covering these costs through direct payment to the Abbey (see below for additional information on housing options at the Abbey).

Expectations:
Therapists participating in the Distance Training Course will recruit a family with a child that meets the eligibility criteria to work with during the course, facilitate pre- and post-testing, and complete all 20 treatments with the child over the 5-month training period.  Read eligibility criteria here.

Training Site and Schedule:
The Trout Lake Abbey Retreat Center is situated at the base of Mount Adams about 1.5 hours from Portland, Oregon. If you are arriving by air, you will fly into the Portland International Airport and rent a car or arrange a car-share with your fellow therapists, to drive to the Center. Therapists should arrive at the Trout Lake Abbey Retreat Center on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Please plan to bring your own food for the evening meal or drive to restaurants in White Salmon (a 30-minute drive from the Retreat Center). The Abbey offers very comfortable common rooms for gathering and dining, a self-serve coffee/tea bar for guests, and a large classroom which looks out onto Mt. Adams. Overflow accommodations are available nearby in the event your preferred housing at the Abbey is not available.
