QST-1 - Autism Parent Trainer Online Certification

Length of Course:
20 weeks
Cost: $850 (U.S.)

This five-month online course provides training and certification in the theoretical and practical skills needed to train parents to proficiency in QST massage for autism. During the course, students work directly with the family of a child with autism, train the parents to adapt the massage to their child's responses, and provide 12 weekly coaching visits aimed at developing parent skills and optimizing treatment outcomes for the child.

In addition, students learn to adapt the massage and optimize treatment outcomes for the wider range of children with autism. They also learn approaches to helping parents overcome the common barriers to continuing long-term therapy.  Please note that the QST-1 course does not certify individuals to
give massage therapy directly to children. This requires the in-person training offered in the QST2 course.

The QST-1 course involves extensive reading, weekly meetings with parents, quizzes, practical testing via Skype, online discussion forums and a final exam. It is important to stay on the course schedule and not fall behind. Successful students are independent learners with high motivation, strong organizational skills, and the ability to self-monitor progress relative to multiple course requirements. See complete course schedule here.

PREREQUISITES FOR THE COURSE
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional or paraprofessional work experience with children with autism or
  • Completion of the QST Course for parents.
  • A reasonable state of health. (QST massage training utilizes energy and sensitivity that is diminished by chronic illness).

    • Have a diagnosis of autism
    • Be under 6 years of age
    • Be on little or no medication
    • Have no additional neurological disability (e.g. cerebral palsy or uncontrolled seizures)

    • Not be a family member or in the direct care of the QST-1 student
  • Collect pre- and post-treatment data from the child/family
  • Complete all weekly course assignments on time
